Vicksburg’s rolling hills, high river bluffs and lush forest may not quite fit in with the vast farmlands you’ll find in the rest of the river region. But when it comes to music, entertainment, history, food and lifestyle, there’s no doubt that Vicksburg shares the Delta’s unique culture.
Located on the bluffs high above the Mississippi River, the city is known for the Vicksburg National Military Park commemorating the 47-day Siege of Vicksburg, the defining battle in the nation’s defining war. Vicksburg offers an array of historic tour homes and bed and breakfast inns. The waterfront is home to five casinos.
Civil War History
The 1,800 acre Vicksburg National Military Park is home to hundreds of priceless works of art that commemorate the Siege of Vicksburg in 1863. The park is home to 1,300 monuments, reconstructed forts, cannons and largest National Cemetery of Union soldiers in the country. Tours of the park can be self-guided or guided by National Park Service licensed guides.
Within the park stand the U.S.S. Cairo which was retrieved from the bottom of the Yazoo River in 1964. It is the only remaining Union ironclad gunboat. The adjacent museum displays thousand of artifacts that were found on-board. The Old Court House Museum and the Vicksburg Battlefield Museum house collections of Civil War era treasures.

Downtown Vicksburg
Downtown Vicksburg is home to the Riverfront Murals depicting the history, restaurants, specialty shops, restaurants and art galleries that feature of the works of regionally and nationally known artists. Live music can be enjoyed at clubs throughout the city and at our casinos.
