The Mississippi Delta: Where the Music meets the Soul

This itinerary is ideal for a traveler in search of an authentic music vacation. Visit Delta blues favorites such as the Delta Blues museum in Clarksdale, the Robert Johnson Crossroads in Greenwood, or the Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale for live music and French cuisine with Mediterranean flair!

Day 1

Take a trip down memory lane browsing collections of vintage photos, album covers, instruments, equipment and other memorabilia. Learn about some of the influential stars of this incredible era that were born in the Mississippi Delta. Open 24 hours. Located inside Horseshoe Casino.

11:30 am - 1 pm Lunch at Ground Zero Blues Club
Co-owned by actor Morgan Freeman, the Ground Zero Blues Club is open for lunch Monday thru Friday, and is open for dinner Wednesday thru Saturday. Hear live music on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. Also co-owned by Freeman is Madidi Restaurant, offering French cuisine with a Mediterranean flair.

The internationally-acclaimed museum showcases the history and significance of the Blues and features exhibits, video, audio and photo collections, and a life-size figure of Blues legend Muddy Waters.

3:30 - 5 pm Dockery Plantation
Feel the spirit of the Blues at Dockery Plantation. According to B.B. King, this is where the Blues began. The Plantation was also home to famous Bluesman Charley Patton.

The Peavine Railroad
A line that ran from Dockery Plantation to the Mississippi River which provided transportation for Bluesmen to meet and play. It meant a broader audience could experience the Blues, and musicians could more easily combine their talents.

Drive through downtown Leland and see the famous Blues murals that honor the Delta Blues musicians.

Located on the corner of Second & Church Streets, the highway marker notes the site where B.B. King played on Saturday nights during his formative years. His signature, handprints and footprints are also embedded on the sidewalk.
